Superheroes, fantasy, Sci-fi, and anime has been growing in popularity in recent years. It is a great time to be a "geek" with so many movies and shows coming out every year it is just too hard to not get excited on what is to come. One of the most popular things to come from this growing phenomena is Cosplay. The textbook definition of cosplay is a hobby in which participants called cosplayers wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific character. Cosplayers can be seen at comic book conventions, community events, movie or game premiers and can even be seen doing charity events to bring a smile to a person's face.
Everyone has a unique style, idea and even preference to what type of cosplay they want to do. Some people buy items to create a character or they design the outfit by hand. Each one can work depending on the person and how quickly they need their costume. Most cosplayers live normal lives outside of their alter egos so finding time to create a specific character can be challenging. Even with the challenges that come with cosplaying, the rewards definitely out weight the challenges. Once you put on your costume or suit a person can feel the confidence rising within themselves.
What attracted me to the world of Cosplay was that everyone was so positive and really enjoyed doing it. Since I started to cosplay as Spider-man people have made me feel like a rock star. Everyone I have met sofar are very nice and have similar interests. Everyone compliments each other on their outfits and always enjoy meeting fellow cosplayers. Becoming part of the non-profit organization known as The Champions of San Antonio has really opened my eyes on what cosplay can accomplish. This organization cosplays at different charity and community events in order to bring a smile to people. Everyone has their own reason and story on why they cosplay. Some cosplayers have become as popular as celebrities within the cosplay world. Even though they are popular among many fans they are very down to earth. I have had the pleasure of meeting different cosplayers such Rachelle Reza who is very nice and positive( Pictured above), David Coplan-Castillo who is a very funny and positive person(Batman and catwoman picture), and many more cosplayers that would make for a really long post. Anyone can cosplay and this is a world that continues to grow.
